Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 September 2026

This policy explains what we do with your personal data when you shop at growhypha.com or use the Hypha app.

Who we are

Hypha is a business name of a partnership between Jude Lewis and Paul Burrows, of 1108 3/2 Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8TD. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about anything in this policy at hello@growhypha.com.

What we collect

  • Account details β€” your name, email address and password when you create an account.
  • Order details β€” what you bought, your delivery address and your order history. Card payments are handled by our payment providers; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Content you post β€” photos, posts, comments and messages you share in the app's community features, and reports you make about other members.
  • Photos you submit for AI diagnosis β€” images you upload for automated analysis, which are sent to a third-party AI provider to process.
  • Location β€” only if you turn it on for the foraging map features. You can switch it off at any time in your device settings.
  • Usage and device data β€” how you use the app and site, your device type, and general location derived from your IP address.
  • Correspondence β€” emails and messages you send us, including coaching conversations.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To provide the Service, take payment and deliver your order β€” because we need to perform our contract with you.
  • To run the community, moderate content and keep members safe β€” because we have a legitimate interest in a safe service, and a legal obligation to act on illegal content.
  • To process photos you submit for diagnosis and to show map features β€” to perform our contract, and with your consent for location.
  • To send marketing emails β€” with your consent, or where you are an existing customer and have not opted out. You can unsubscribe from any email.
  • To keep accounting and tax records β€” because the law requires it.
  • To improve the Service and understand how it is used β€” because we have a legitimate interest in improving what we offer.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it with the providers we need to run the business: our store and hosting platform, our payment providers, Apple and Google for app subscriptions, our email provider, our delivery carriers, the AI provider that processes diagnosis photos, and our analytics provider. Each of them acts on our instructions. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens we rely on the UK's approved transfer mechanisms, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision, so your data keeps the same protection.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and the content you post until you delete your account. We keep order, payment and tax records for six years, as UK tax law requires. We keep records of reports, moderation decisions and enforcement action for 12 months. Deleted data may persist in routine backups until those backups are overwritten, normally within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@growhypha.com and we will respond within one month. You can delete your account yourself in the app under Settings β†’ Security and privacy β†’ Delete account.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

The Service is not for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and we will delete any account we find belongs to one.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences and measure traffic. You can control non-essential cookies through the banner on the site or your browser settings.

Changes

If we change this policy materially we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
